Thomas Stahr

begann mit 14 Jahren E-Bass zu spielen. Später studierte er klassischen Kontrabass an der Musikhochschule Köln, u. a. bei Prof. Wolfgang Güttler. 1986 legte er die künstlerische Reifeprüfung „Mit Auszeichnung“ ab und 1989 sein Konzertexamen. Von 1987 bis 1991 war er Dozent für E-Bass und Jazz-Kontrabass an der Rheinischen Musik schule in Köln. Seit 1991 ist er Mitglied des Gewandhausorchesters und seit 1995 Lehrbeauftragter für E-Bass und Jazz-Kontrabass an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater „Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy“ Leipzig. Er spielte u. a. mit Nigel Kennedy, Ron Williams, Thomas Freitag und Jiggs Wigham. In folgenden Big Bands wirkte er mit: German Philharmonic Big Band, Köln Big Band, Leipzig Big Band und LeipJAZZig-Orkester. Sein wichtigstes Jazz-Projekt ist das „New Leipzig Jazz Trio“ in der Besetzung Gesang, Bass und Percussion.

Thomas Stahr began playing electric bass at the age of 14. He later studied classical double bass at the Music Conservatory in Cologne with Prof. Wolfgang Güttler, among others. In 1986 he passed his artist diploma exam “with distinction”, and in 1989 he completed his concert diploma. From 1987 to 1991 he was a teacher for electric bass and jazz double bass at the Rhineland Music School in Cologne. Since 1991, he is a member of the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, and since 1995 he is associate professor for electric bass and jazz double bass at the Music Academy “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig. He played with Nigel Kennedy, Ron Williams, Thomas Freitag and Jiggs Wigham, among others. He worked with the following Big Bands: German Philharmonic Big Band, Cologne Big Band, Leipzig Big Band and the LeipJAZZig-Orkester. His most important jazz project is the “New Leipzig Jazz Trio” composed of vocals, bass, and percussion.
