Mai Yakushiji

Mai Yakushiji, geboren in Tokio, absolvierte sie an der dortigen Kunitachi Hochschule für Musik ein Klavierstudium, unter anderem bei Seiki Haida (Klavier solo) und Seiya Hirashima (Liedgestaltung). Bereits während des Studiums entdeckte sie das Kunstlied als ihre große Leidenschaft und späteren Lebensmittelpunkt. 2004 gewann sie beim Nationalen Klavierwettbewerb in Japan den 1. Preis. Zwei Jahre später nahm sie an der Internationalen Sommerakademie „Das Deutsche Lied“ für Gesang und Klavier in Rottenburg am Neckar teil und erhielt daraufhin ein Stipendium. Sie ist Stipendiatin der GVL im Rahmen des „Neustart Kultur” – Programmes 2021. Wertvolle künstlerische Anregungen erhielt sie bei Meisterkursen von Irwin Gage und Karl-Peter Kammerlander. Sie lebt seit 2006 in Berlin, wo sie ihre Kenntnisse in Liedgestaltung und Korrepetition bei Sayali Dadas vertieft. Bis 2012 begleitete sie in Axel Baunis Interpretationsklasse für Zeitgenössisches Lied an der Universität der Künste. Seit 2014 ist sie Dozentin für Liedgestaltung am Internationalen Institut für Gesangskunst in Berlin. Seit 2012 arbeitet sie außerdem als Korrepetitorin im Opernprojekt „Dorf macht Oper“ in der Prignitz. Liederabende und Kammermusikkonzerte führten sie bisher nach Wien und Almelo, nach Boston und in verschiedene Orte Deutschlands und Japans.

Mai Yakushiji, born in Tokyo, Mai Yakushiji studied piano at the Kunitachi College of Music, most notably with Seiki Haida (piano solo) and Seiya Hirashima (song interpretation). Already during her studies she discovered the Art Song was to be one of her great passions and later, taking a central part in her life. In 2004, she won 1st prize at the National Piano Competition in Japan. Two years later she took part in the International Summer Academy „Das Deutsche Lied“ for voice and piano in Rottenburg am Neckar and subsequently received a scholarship. She is a GVL scholarship holder, which is part of the „Neustart Kultur“ Programme for 2021. She received valuable artistic inspiration at masterclasses given by Irwin Gage and Karl-Peter Kammerlander. She has been living in Berlin since 2006, where she is deepening her knowledge of song interpretation and accompaniment with Sayali Dadas. Until 2012 she accompanied in Axel Bauni‘s interpretation class for contemporary song at the Berlin University of the Arts. Since 2014 she has been a lecturer for song interpretation at the International Institute for the Art of Singing in Berlin. Since 2012 she has also worked as a répétiteur in the opera project „Dorf macht Oper“ in Prignitz. Song recitals and chamber music concerts have so far taken her to Vienna, Almelo, Boston as well as to various places in Germany and Japan.
