Gotthold Schwarz

Im sächsischen Zwickau geboren, studierte Gotthold Schwarz Gesang bei Gerda Schriever, Orgel bei Hannes Kästner und Wolfgang Schetelich, Dirigieren bei Max Pommer und Hans-Joachim Rotzsch. Darüber hinaus arbeitete er mit Hermann Christian Polster, Peter Schreier, Helmuth Rilling u. a.
Eine umfangreiche Konzerttätigkeit führte Gotthold Schwarz frühzeitig in die bedeutenden euro-päischen Musikzentren sowie in die USA, wo er u. a. Interpretationskurse zu Werken Bachs gab. Regelmäßige Zusammenarbeit verbindet ihn mit renommierten Künstlern und Ensembles in ganz Europa, so mit Frieder Bernius, Peter Schreier, Michael Schneider, Martin Haselböck, Peter Neumann, Philippe Herreweghe, John Eliot Gardiner, Christophe Coin, Gustav Leonhardt, Michael Schönheit, Christoph Soldan, Il giardino armonico (Milano), dem Thomanerchor Leipzig, dem Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, dem Dresdner Kreuzchor, dem Kammerchor der Frauenkirche zu Dresden und Matthias Grünert, Jörg Straube, Ludwig Güttler, dem Würzburger Bachchor und Chri-stian Kabitz, dem Mainzer Bachchor, dem Freiburger Barockorchester u. v. a. m.
Neben Konzert und Oper widmet er seine künstlerische Tätigkeit dem Liedgesang, wobei ihn ein umfassendes Repertoire vom Barock bis zur Moderne ausweist, was u. a. durch zahlreiche Einspielungen dokumentiert wird. Mit namhaften Dirigenten und Ensembles nahm Gotthold Schwarz zahlreiche CDs auf und wirkte bei vielen Rundfunkproduktionen mit.

Gotthold Schwarz was born in the Saxon town of Zwickau and received his training at the Dresden School of Church Music and the Mendelssohn School of Music in Leipzig. His teachers included Gerda Schriever (voice), Hannes Kästner and Wolfgang Schetelich (organ) and Max Pommer and Hans-Joachim Rotzsch (conducting). Further studies, master classes and academies took him to Hermann Christian Polster, Peter Schreier and Helmuth Rilling, among others.
Schwarz’s active concert career led him at an early date to the leading musical centres of Europe and to the United States , where among other things he gave courses in the performance of Bach. He works on a regular basis with renowned artists and ensembles throughout Europe, including Frieder Bernius, Peter Schreier, Michael Schneider, Martin Haselböck, Peter Neumann, Philippe Herreweghe, John Eliot Gardiner, Christophe Coin, Gustav Leonhardt, Michael Schönheit, Christoph Soldan, Il giardino armonico (Milan), the choir of St. Thomas’s in Leipzig, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Dresden Kreuzchor, the Chamber Choir of the Dresden Frauenkirche, Matthias Grünert, Jörg Straube, Ludwig Güttler, the Würzburg Bach Choir, Christian Kabitz, the Mainz Bach Choir, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, and many others.
In addition to the concert hall and opera house, he also devotes himself to lieder, where his voluminous repertoire ranges from the Baroque era to the present day, as is evident in his many CD recordings and radio broadcasts with leading conductors and ensembles.
